(PressMediaWire) - Irvine, CA - IMMAE announced today as part of its 2009 push for environmentally friendly technologies that it has partnered with nationally renowned hemp expert Chris Boucher to hold two important workshops at the August IMMAE event

Mr. Boucher will lead two seminars, one for the use of hemp in the textile base of MMA. The second seminar will focus on the use of hemp in nutrition and dietary supplement products. These seminars will be designed to assist MMA manufacturers and service providers in evaluating when and where hemp based resources can be added to their catalogs. Mr. Boucher’s credentials will ensure that these seminars are informative and lucrative in terms of education and contacts garnered. These hemp based seminars are part of a wider push for green technologies and environmentally friendly materials.

Adding to this green push is OnTheMat.com’s manufacturing wing which will be producing prototype equipment made completely from hemp materials. About the Speaker

Christopher Boucher is an Eco American Entrepreneur with a seemingly insatiable appetite for saving the earth. Founding one of the first hemp companies, Hempstead Co. New Mexico Legislature supports Hemp Industry initiatives Governor Richardson directs state agency to study the economic viability of a Hemp Industry for New Mexico The objective of introducing industrial hemp into New Mexico as a cash crop took giant steps forward in the recent legislative session as both the House and Senate passed Memorials requesting the New Mexico Department of Agriculture to investigate the feasibility of state incentives for commercial production of industrial hemp. Though biologically related to the hallucinogen marijuana, industrial hemp is not psychoactive and cannot be converted into any form of recreational substance. HM 47 sponsored by Representative Ray Begaye and SM 30 sponsored by Senator Cisco McSorley also request that Congress acknowledge the difference between Marijuana and Industrial Hemp and clearly legalize the commercial production of Industrial Hemp. Governor Bill Richardson gave a sympathetic ear to the industrial hemp effort when he assigned his Director of Policy and Issues, Bill Hume, to participate in advancing this initiative. Bolstered by this recent support, a citizens advocacy group which had worked on hemp legislation for New Mexico since 2000, has formally established the New Mexico Industrial Hemp Coalition to direct the momentum forward.

The NMIHC is established to include growers, manufacturers, and investors and is intended to represent the interests of various hemp industry stakeholders. The diverse group currently includes farmers who have expressed an interest in growing the cash crop, established retailers who have seen their sales grow exponentially in the past few years and interested investors who see the economic potential. The New Mexico Federation of Labor has expressed their interest in the potential job and workforce development opportunities this new industry will create within New Mexico. New Mexico Industrial Hemp Coalition interim Co-Director, Gloria Castillo states, “The hemp plant has been used for centuries. Many varied products can be created from hemp. These products include food for human and livestock consumption, oils for human and industrial use, textiles and green building materials. Hemp is a drought-tolerant plant that should thrive under New Mexico’s agricultural conditions.

To allow the cultivation of hemp in New Mexico will open the door for the creation of businesses to process the raw material. The processed products would then strengthen and expand the retailing of hemp-based products. Furthermore the harvested plant could be sold outside of New Mexico to other states in the Union. The positive economic impact on New Mexico could be significant and far-reaching in scope.” Because of the overbroad legal biological definition of marijuana, it remains illegal to cultivate the benign cousin industrial hemp in the United States. However, working in concert with similar organizations across the country, the New Mexico Industrial Hemp Coalition is hopeful of persuading the Obama Administration to refine the definition of the illegal plant sufficiently to legalize the production of industrial hemp. Considering serious the sad state of the US economy we are experiencing, the worst has yet to come. Growing hemp in New Mexico could be an agriculture boom for the local family farmers. Industrial Hemp has overwhelming support including the State legislature and State senate.

According to a recent Wall Street Journal article Jan 20th 2009 is about the Natural Foods Industry Association, explains how hemp seeds and hemp products are the fastest growing new food category in North America. They (Hemp seeds) are considered a new top super food for protein and essential fatty acid (EFA) intake. 

Agriculture provides a considerable source of income for New Mexico yet other major crops such as onions, pecans and sorghum are grown in this dry climate. Pinto beans, piñon nuts, and chili peppers are also raised.

It is a protocol that mandates FEMA has an ample supply of seeds in the US, including the hemp seed, to insure the national food supply against natural or other disasters. Unless hemp loses its identity as an agricultural commodity or agricultural product.

 The US Government must take an active part in promoting and financing loans for industrial Hemp through the USDA and other affiliate agriculture programs including The Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC), a Government-owned and operated entity that was created to stabilize, support, and protect farm income and farm commodity pricing, to maintain balanced and adequate supplies of agricultural commodities, and to aid in their orderly distribution.

 In this capacity, the CCC, or other government entity, could regulate the development, construction and operation of industrial facilites to process hemp seeds for food, protein, and animal feed. Hemp fiber mills which can used in the automotive (Currently Ford Motors uses Canadian hemp fiber in automotive door panels),  plastics, construction, and clothing industries.

 In order to facilitate a large-scale domestic production of hemp seed and fiber, US farmers must also compete with mainly Chinese and Canadian hemp farmers who supply 95% of the imported hemp products into the USA.

 According to the Natural Foods Industry Association, hemp seeds and hemp products are the fastest growing new food category. They are considered a super food for protein and essential fatty acid (EFA) intake. (Hemp oil has the highest ration of EFAís of any dietary oil available on the market today).

 The American Hemp Start Up Program  (AHSUP) promotes the potential production of the following acerage needed to establish a viable USA industry.

 50,000 acres of seeds to grow for production for food and health cosmetics industries. One seed mill can process approx. 5,000 acres of seed.

 15,000 acres of fiber for the textile, automotive, paper and plastics industries.

One fiber mill can process approx 10000 acres to (approx 40,000 tons of raw hemp to operate a mill in 1 year. 

 According to our program 30-50 hemp processing mills would generate up to 8,000 jobs from farm to industry.

 The Hemp seeds you would need to start  this program would be approx. 270,000-300,000 pounds of viable industrial hemp seed.

           The different kinds of harvesting equipment used and processing plants in Canada and China have been analyzed critically. The most desired features of seed and fiber processing plants are incorporated into AHSUP plan. Iinitially the core immediate plan is to set up in a pilot mills in several States to be revised as necessary.

 Clear observations have also been made into soil conditions in hemp growing USA locations and on methods of seeding, harvesting retting and seed handling legalities. Materials and publications made for use in educating and training farmers, producers as well as plant operators.
